Abu Raed (Nadim Sawalha) is a lonely janitor at Amman’s International Airport in Jordan. One day he finds a discarded Captain's hat in the trash and is spotted wearing it later that day by a neighborhood boy. The next morning he wakes up to find a group of neighborhood children at his door, believing him to be an airline pilot. And thus the friendship begins. Happy for the company and attention, he takes the children to colorful places around the world through his fictional stories and inspires them to believe in their own ambitions. Jordan's first Oscar submission for Foreign Film; 2007 Sundance World Cinema Audience Award winner and recent John Schlesinger Award winner at the 2009 Palm Springs International Film Festival. I'm really impressed that this film was made in Jordan. I liked it, but I couldn't get around the fact that he found that hat in the trash can. My husband was an airline captain and I kept his hat. I thought the kids were cute though.
